Telangana Students Urge Revanth Reddy to Remove Retired Officials
HYDERABAD: Members of the Telangana Students Association (TSA) at Osmania University urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to remove retired employees, who continue to hold higher positions, such as heads of department in various government departments.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle on Friday, N.M. Srikanth Yadav, president of the TSA, said that for the last decade, about 1,050 retired employees, appointed by the previous BRS government, have been continuing in various government departments in higher positions, such as heads of department and other senior roles. Yadav said the Telangana government is spending about Rs 1,800 crore annually on their salaries and other allowances.
“Due to this continuation, deserving senior employees are forced to retire without getting any promotions. Furthermore, unemployed youth are also not getting jobs in the government sector,” he stated.
Another student leader, Ramkishan, said that Revanth Reddy, when he was in the Opposition, had promised to remove retired employees who were appointed illegally by K. Chandrashekar Rao’s government.
“Revanth Reddy had also assured the public that he would remove these retired employees immediately, promote senior employees, and fill job vacancies through regular job notifications for the unemployed if the Congress came to power,” he said.
The TSA leaders said even after 8 months in power, the Congress government has not implemented its promise made on this front.
