Telangana Teachers Demand Action on Transfer and Promotion Delays

Hyderabad: Several teachers are demanding the swift resolution of their transfer and promotion appeals, which they said had remained unresolved for over 40 days. Despite the transparency of the web counselling process, many teachers claim to have faced setbacks due to technical issues, administrative errors and miscommunication.

The education department had provided a week for teachers to submit their appeals, but the delay in addressing these concerns has left many educators agitated.

Some teachers who were relieved from their previous postings are yet to join their new assignments, while others, who have assumed their new roles, continue to await the outcome of their appeals. The teachers argue that it is the responsibility of the education department to expedite the resolution process and bring clarity.

The Telangana State United Teachers' Federation (TSUTF) has lodged a complaint with the education secretary levelling allegations of irregularities against the district education officers (DEOs) in Adilabad and Mahbubabad.

Federation leaders K. Jangaiah and Chava Ravi have accused these officials of engaging in corrupt practices during the transfer and promotion process.

The Adilabad DEO was accused of reducing points for a female teacher during the transfer due to a personal vendetta. In Mahbubabad, the DEO allegedly violated roster point rules by awarding promotions to male candidates over eligible SC female candidates. Although some of these discrepancies were corrected by the intervention of the director of school education, the affected teachers did not receive the schools they said they were entitled to.

Additionally, there are allegations that a teacher in Adilabad was deputed for clerical work in violation of the Right to Education Act, with claims that the DEO was using this teacher to facilitate further irregularities.
