Telangana: Two Farmers Killed by Lightning
Heavy rains lashes some parts of Warangal, Karimnagar
Karimnagar: Two farmers died when lightning struck them at Huzurabad and Kothaguda mandals on Wednesday.
Kankanala Krishna Kumar (33), a farmer of Pothireddypally village of Huzurabad mandal, died from lightning when he was grazing his cattle on the outskirts of the village.
In another incident, Durgam Lakshmaiah (65), a farmer of Kothaguda mandal of Mahabubabad district, died when lightning struck him when he was working in his fields on the outskirts of Bathalapalli village.
Lightning strike damaged a house in Rangaiahpally village and destroyed furniture and CCTV equipment worth Rs 3 lakh in the house. Since both the mother and son were out of the village, there was no casualty.
In Karimnagar, heavy rains pounded Huzurabad, Thimmapur, Chigurumamidi and Vemulawada mandals causing interruption to vehicular movement and damaging standing paddy and corn crops.
Heavy rains were witnessed in Sirole, Kothaguda, Venkatapur, Raghunathpally, Jangaon, Bhimadevrapally mandals and moderate rainfall was witnessed in Geesukonda, Duggondi, Nallabelli, Sangem and Narsampet mandals of Warangal and NTR Nagar, Brudhavan Nagar, Santoshimata colony, Sai Nagar of Hanamkonda city.
With the Met department predicting moderate to heavy rains in most parts of Karimnagar and Warangal districts due to cyclonic effect in the Bay of Bengal, officials of both the districts were put on high alert.
Officials appealed to people not to venture out of homes and not to cross roads. People were asked to dial 100 if they face any danger due to heavy inflows of water in their villages.
