Hyderabad: Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said the state government had on Wednesday written to the Centre to honour its promise of establishing the turmeric board on November 13. He said this will benefit the farmers.

The letter said that the establishment of the board has been a long held wish of the farmers in Nizamabad who have been seeking minimum support price for their produce for the past 10 years now.

The minister further sought a regional coconut development board in Bhadradri Kothagudem which has 1,757 acres under the crop while Khammam district has 696 acres. This amounts to 75 per cent of the 3,300 acres of the crop in the state.

“The board will come in handy to give technical inputs on growing inter crops and mixed crops to the farmers. It will also provide scope for introduction of new varieties,” Nageswara Rao said.
