 Warangal: Cheruvu Kommu thanda in Warangal district has elected its sarpanch, way before the local bodies polls have been notified. Daravath Balaji celebrated his election after making some promises, including the building of three temples, to the locals,

At a village committee meeting, sources said, Balaji as the elders to allow him to be elected unopposed whenever the polls are held.

He promised that he would resolve vexatious issues and construct three temples including for Goddess Pochamma, and Lord Anjaneya Swamy. For the installation of the Bodrai, he would give Rs 1,000 to each household.

The elders accepted and asked Balaji to complete the works before the commencement of elections. They also passed a resolution that only Balaji would file his nomination papers for the sarpanch elections when they are called. Anyone violated the order of the panchayat committee would have to pay Rs 50 lakh as penalty to Balaji.

Later, Balaji and his co-villagers celebrated the ‘victory’.

Asked about the development, Parvathagiri sub-inspector A. Praveen Kumar said that since there was no election code in place, it was not clear what kind of action could be taken against the village panchayat committee and Balaji.
