Hyderabad:The Telangana Pollution Control Board (TPCB) has ordered the immediate closure of the Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plant operated by Phoenix Spaces Pvt Ltd in Puppalguda, Rangareddy district. The plant was found to be in violation of several environmental regulations, with inspections revealing serious lapses in the implementation of pollution control measures.

Residents living near the plant, particularly those from Navanami Residency, complained about the constant dust and noise that had disrupted their daily lives.

The investigation found that the plant had failed to comply with earlier directives. Wind barriers meant to contain dust emissions were installed at only 10 feet instead of the required 10 metres. Bag filters and water sprinklers, essential for controlling dust during operations, were either not functioning or absent altogether. In addition, records showing the operation of pollution control equipment were not maintained, raising further concerns about the plant's compliance.

The plant had previously been ordered to shut down in September 2022 for operating without necessary approvals. A temporary reprieve was granted in June 2024, allowing operations to resume under strict conditions. However, the latest inspections showed that the conditions were not met. Hence, the board revoked the temporary permissions and enforced the closure order once again.

The board has directed the management of Phoenix Spaces to halt all activities at the site. Operations can only resume if the company rectifies its violations and meets all regulatory requirements.
