Hyderabad: The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TGPSC) on Friday postponed the Group-2 examination.

This marks the fourth postponement of the Group-2 exam, which had attracted 5.51 lakh applicants for 783 posts.

Scheduled for August 7 and 8, the postponement was sought by candidates due to the ongoing district selection committee (DSC) exams that many of them were writing.

The decision to postpone was taken after extensive interactions between Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and the candidates, who had been urging the government to reconsider the timing of the DSC and Group-2 exams, given their close scheduling.

Out of 2.79 lakh applicants for the DSC exams, 2.48 lakh candidates had downloaded their hall tickets by mid-July, vying for 11,062 vacant teaching posts.

TGPSC had issued a job advertisement for Group-2 last year. The application submission process ran from January 18 to February 16, 2023.

Despite the state government's initial commitment to hold the exam as scheduled, many students protested, citing insufficient preparation time due to the extensive syllabus. The latest decision is seen as a positive step by the government as it addresses the concerns of the candidates.

During his meeting with Group-2 candidates, Bhatti assured them that the government would explore the feasibility of conducting the exam in the last week of December and directed TGPSC chairman Mahender Reddy to consider the request immediately.

He reiterated the government's commitment to creating employment opportunities, while highlighting the provision of 54,000 jobs within three months. He also mentioned plans to announce a job calendar and take steps to ensure that competitive exams do not clash. He criticised the previous administration for not filling vacancies over the past decade, which, he argued, could have stabilised countless families.
