Hyderabad:  Cable operators and internet service providers must remove their cables and other items from electric poles immediately, failing which action will be taken against them, said Musharraf Ali Faruqui, chairman and managing director of the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TGSPDCL).

In a statement, Musharraf Ali pointed out that they had been asked to remove their cables during a series of meetings in the last two months. In a meeting on August 7, the operators were asked to arrange their cables as per regulations within a week on all main roads and within two weeks on other roads.

The CMD pointed out that some cable operators and internet service providers were not cooperating despite the requests.

“The dangling cables have led to many incidents in the past hurting people, mainly pedestrians. The bundles of damaged and unused cables and other telecom equipment on electricity poles led to accidents,” Musharraf Ali said.

The electric short circuits have also been reported to be causing power outages. The extra load on electric poles is causing them to bend. Further, the electricity staff is facing difficulties in performing maintenance work on poles due to the cables.”

Sufficient time has been given to the cable operators and internet service providers to make appropriate arrangements, but cable removal has not yet started in some areas. “If the cables are removed as agreed upon, the electricity department staff will remove them,” warned Musharraf Faruqui.
