HYDERABAD: It was a sea of humanity at the Exhibition Grounds in Nampally the whole of Saturday. People in thousands waited in long queues hoping to get relief from bronchial ailments after being administered the fish prasadam by members of the Bathini Goud family, after the formal inauguration by transport minister Ponnam Prabakar.

Distribution of the prasadam, which started at 11 am on Saturday, will continue till 11 am on Sunday.

Patients, their attendants and families, who came from other states, stayed in hotels, while those who could not afford the costs slept on the floor inside the premises. An NGO provided food to the visitors, while police kept a tight vigil all around.

As the fisheries department was issuing tokens for the last two days, the problem of overcrowding at the counters was comfortably solved.

The Bathini family has been providing the prasadam for the last 174 years.
