Hyderabad: In view of the forthcoming Sankranti festival, the sleuths of the Asifnagar police crime team and southwest zone task force have raided three places in Mangalhat, arrested three persons and seized 462 loaded bobbins of banned Chinese manja and other synthetic material from their possession.

The arrested persons are Vinay Raj Singh, Anoop Singh and Shanker Singh, all residents of Manghahat. The seized Chinese manja and other synthetic threads were coated with glass and other harmful substances. This thread will injure animals, birds and human beings.

It can be recalled that on January 13, 2024, an Army soldier K. Koteshwara Reddy lost his life after a nylon manja used for kite flying got entangled with a lamppost and slit his throat on Langar Houz flyover when he was going to work on his bike. He was 29 and left behind his wife and two-year-old daughter.

On this occasion, the police said there is a complete ban on procuring, stocking, selling and the use of nylon thread which is commonly called Chinese manja or other synthetic (nonbiodegradable) threads. "We appeal to the parents not to buy the banned Chinese manja and prevent the children from using it. Sellers shall not sell the banned products and offenders will be prosecuted by binding over before the court, said G. Chandra Mohan, DCP of southwest zone.
