Hyderabad: In a major breakthrough in tracking down NDPS drug racket, Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) personnel and Bowenpally police arrested three persons and seized 8.5 kg of Amphetamine NDPS drug and other material worth Rs 8.5 crore.

They loaded the contraband in a car and were coming towards the city Sunday evening when cops intercepted their vehicle dairy farm road near pillar number 44.

The prime accused Kunchala Nagaraju alias Nagraj (34) presently residing in Gummadidala village of Sangareddy district is a native of Prakasam district. His associates Ashagouni Vinod Kumar Goud (42) and Kunti Srishailam (35) both from Dundigal came together to sell amphetamine to consumers in the twin cities. They were arrested when carrying the contraband in a car (AP 28 DG 4545), said the city police commissioner Kothakota Srineevasa Reddy at a press conference here on Monday.

The vehicle along with the banned substance and three mobile phones were seized, all valued at Rs8.5 crore, he said.

The drug manufacturer was identified as Gosukonda Anji Reddy, a resident of Gummadidala, Sangareddy district. He was recently arrested by Gummadidala police and is in judicial custody.

During questioning, Nagaraju confessed that he came in contact with businessman Gosukonda Anji Reddy, who was involved in manufacturing NDPS drugs in his factories and godowns, the commissioner said.

In June 2024 Anji Reddy called Nagaraju and handed him three plastic transparent packets containing drugs and asked him to conceal them. Later, Reddy urged Nagaraju to join in the sale of illegal drugs, the top cop said.

When Nagaraju came to know that police had raided Anji Reddy’s unit Kothapally village and had seized contraband before arresting him, he tied up with Ashagouni Vinod Kumar Goud, a cab car driver, and Kunti Srishailam to sell drugs.

Police registered a case in crime number 515 of 2024, under section 8(c), read with 22(c), 29 NDPS Act 1985. The three were handed over to Bowenpally police and later produced before the court and sent for judicial remand.
