Hyderabad: The Madhapur special operations team (SOT), along with the Raidurgam police, arrested three peddlers for supplying 620 gms of heroin paste, worth Rs 4.65 crore, along with five consumers to whom they supplied the narcotic.

Madhapur DCP Dr Vineeth G. identified the accused as sub-suppliers Mangalaram, Dinesh Chowdhary and Ganesh Chowdhary, all from Rajasthan and residents in the city. The main supplier Savar Jhat from Rajasthan is absconding.

“We suspect the supplier's links with Pakistan and Afghanistan suppliers,” the DCP said.

Police said the trio had ordered heroin paste worth Rs 48,000 from Savar Jhat, who came to Hyderabad in a car to transport the contraband. The trio hired two individuals, Suresh and Ramesh Chandu from Pali district of Rajasthan, to transport the drugs to consumers and paid them Rs 7,000 each, police said.

After meeting Suresh and Ramesh near ECIL for discussing the procedure of selling drugs, the trio hid the drugs at a store in Gachibowli. Based on a tip-off, the SOT and the law and order police intercepted and arrested the trio.

A total of 620 gms of heroin paste, a car worth Rs 15 lakh in which the drug was being smuggled, an SUV and and eight mobile phones were recovered from Gachibowli store.

On questioning them, the three confessed about the five consumers. Learning of the arrests, Suresh and Ramesh left the hotel they were staying in.

Asked how the suppliers got acquainted with the consumers, he said, “Most of them are relatives and people that the suppliers are familiar with. They either own sweet shops or clothes shops. Earlier, there was a case from the same state where heroin was supplied in a sweet box,” Dr Vineeth said.

One of the consumers is known to have been involved in a NDPS case before, the DCP said.
