HYDRAA demolishes three highrises on FTL of a lake
The demolitions started in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday around 2 am
HYDERABAD: A team from Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection (HYDRAA) demolished three S+5 under construction illegal buildings in the full tank level (FTL) of Errakunta lake in Nizampet.
The demolitions started in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday around 2 am. Malik trading and demolition agency, which has been entrusted with the task, used a hydraulic crane equipped with a combi-crusher to ensure that none in the vicinity would get hurt.
Portions of the structures were crushed in a systematic pattern so that huge chunks of concrete and other material do not collapse on the ground like it happens during the regular demolition exercises.
“We can’t directly raze tall buildings unlike regular demolitions due to safety concerns. It took around four hours to demolish one S+5 building,” said an official from HYDRA.
In addition to the three buildings, the temporary structures that are in the FTL will also be pulled down, said another official.
The same agency was hired earlier to demolish the Deccan Knitwear sports accessories building, which was gutted in a fire mishap in January 2023. HYDRAA officials said that the crackdown against illegal structures will continue in other parts of the city as well.
