Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy paid tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru on the 60th anniversary of his death at his residence in Jubilee Hills. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) leaders also honoured Nehru's legacy at Gandhi Bhavan, where a meeting was held under the theme "Nehru - India and Democracy."

During the event at Indira Bhavan, MLC T. Jeevan Reddy highlighted Nehru's contributions to India's development. "Jawaharlal Nehru, our first Prime Minister, implemented several reforms that were pivotal in shaping modern India, especially in the agriculture and industry sectors," he said.

TPCC working president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud criticised attempts by RSS and BJP leaders to tarnish Nehru's reputation for political gain. "Despite these efforts, the people of India continue to remember and honour Nehru's service to society," Goud remarked. Rajen Harshe, former vice-chancellor of Central University, spoke on Nehru's liberal democratic values. "Nehru was a staunch advocate for intellectual freedom, press freedom, and civil rights. He was a secular leader who respected all religious beliefs and believed in the integral relationship between secularism and democracy," Harshe stated.

Harshe elaborated on Nehru's socialist ideals, noting that Nehru saw socialism as a means to achieve economic democracy. "Nehru's vision of democracy extended globally, as he opposed colonialism, imperialism, racism, fascism, and championed human rights worldwide," he added.

The commemorative event served as a reminder of Nehru's enduring legacy and his contributions to the nation's democratic and secular fabric.
