Hyderabad: With the salaries of contract workers in the hospitals of Telangana Vaidya Vidhan Parishad (TVVP) pending for seven months, the workers held out a protest at King Koti Hospital on Tuesday. One-hour dharnas were held in all hospitals of the TVVP.

The contract workers for sanitation, patient care and security departments in the area hospitals and community health centres (CHCs) across the state alleged that the budget had not been released for salaries.

"Despite making several representations to the TVVP commissioner, the salaries have not been paid since February. We have launched agitation programmes from today. There are workers facing serious money shortages and are unable to pay their house rent or children's fees," said M. Narasimha, general secretary, Telangana Medical Contract Employees and Workers Union (AITUC). If the salaries are not paid swiftly, the workers will boycott all duties and go on strike.

"Around 158 contract workers from patient care, security and sanitation department of the King Koti Hospital participated in the protest. Regular agitations will happen from 10 am to 11 am until the budget is sanctioned and the salaries paid," said Rajender, health supervisor, King Koti Hospital.
