Two smugglers held with Rs 2.94 crore worth gold

Officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested two persons for transporting gold of foreign origin into the city and seized 3.98 kg gold worth Rs 2.94 crore from their possession.

Hyderabad: Officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested two persons for transporting gold of foreign origin into the city and seized 3.98 kg gold worth Rs 2.94 crore from their possession.

According to DRI officials, acting on specific intelligence tipoff regarding movement of smuggled foreign origin gold from Kolkata to the city, on suspicion they detained a car in the outskirts. On checking, they found the smuggled gold that was ingeniously concealed in two specially made cavities.

The gold and the vehicle were seized. The two were arrested under the provisions of Customs Act, 1962.
