Water Released From Sriramsagar for Rabi Crops
Nizamabad: Water was released from the Sriramsagar project on Wednesday for rabi crops under ayacut area. Water was also simultaneously released for the Kakatiya main canal, Saraswathi and Laxmi canals. Farmers in large numbers took part in the programme.
SRSP superintendent engineer Srinivas Rao Gupta performed pujas and offered flowers to the main canal before the release of water. Telangana state seeds development corporation chairman Sunketa Anvesh Reddy released water for Laxmi canal which caters for the irrigation needs of farmers in Nizamabad district.
Nirmal MLA Eleti Maheshwar Reddy along with the farmers released water for Saraswathi canal for Nirmal district. For the cultivation of crops between Sriramsagar project and Lower Manair Dam (LMD) officials released the water for canals. Water will be released phase-wise up to April, 2025 for rabi crops along with drinking water needs under the Mission Bhagiratha scheme.
Water level in Sriramsagar project on Wednesday was 1,090.90 feet as against its full capacity of 1,091.00 ft. On the same day, last year water level was 1,087.80 ft with 69.190 tmc of storage. At present, 80.053 tmc of water is stored against the full storage capacity is 80.5 tmc. Initially, 3,000 cusecs of water was released into Kakatiya main canal which would be gradually increased.
In view of the release of water from Sriramsagar project, farmers in Nizamabad, Nirmal, Jagtial, Karimnagar and Peddapalli districts will benefit. Interestingly, SRSP has got 282.317 tmc of water from June 1, 2024, while 209.615 tmc of water was released into river Godavari as floodwater.
