Karimnagar: A contractor from Maharashtra allegedly kidnapped the mother of a stone worker for not repaying money in Vemulawada urban mandal, Rajanna Sircilla district.
According to police, Lalu Diwakar, who had taken a contract to cut sugarcane in Karnataka, approached Vallapu Srinivas, a resident of Kodumunja village in Vemulawada urban mandal, to assist him in hiring workers. Acting as a middleman, Srinivas helped Diwakar hire workers from Chhattisgarh, for which Diwakar paid Rs 3.8 lakh to the workers and also gave Srinivas a commission.
However, when Diwakar later called the workers to begin the job, they refused and stopped responding to him. Diwakar then began forcing Srinivas to repay the money. Srinivas offered to accompany Diwakar to Chhattisgarh to speak with the workers, but Diwakar insisted on immediate repayment.
On Wednesday evening, Diwakar, accompanied by several others, went to Kodumunja village and abducted Srinivas's mother, Bhima Bai, from her home while Srinivas was away.
Srinivas subsequently filed a complaint with the Vemulawada urban police, who have registered a case and started an investigation.
