Hyderabad: Working women and students, especially girls, who are being victimised by ganja and drug addicts, can be rest assured that once they come forward and lodge complaints against the culprits, police would deal with an iron hand and punish the miscreants, said Sadhana Rashmi Perumal, DCP (task force), here on Sunday.

Urging women and girls to shed their fears and insecure feelings while venturing out alone, she cautioned them that if they bear the harassment in silence, the perpetrators would continue to target them and others.

Condemning the rising instances of such excesses by ganja addicts, she told Deccan Chronicle, “We are keen on ensuring the security of working women and students, who are vulnerable to such criminal tendencies. I personally hope that the victims will report to us or their nearest police station so that we can swing into action. They can dial 100 or contact task force officials in person so that our trained officers can prevent further harassment and prosecute the accused.”

Apart from counseling the victims, whose identity would not be revealed, they will be trained on dealing with such unsocial elements, she said.

Continuing further, Rashmi Perumal said “Repeat offenders would be punished as under the PD Act. Our trained officers are posted on field duties. They can reach the location from where the victim complains in a fraction of minutes”.
