Bhadadri-Kothagudem: Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Jitender on Monday directed officials working in Maoist-affected areas to coordinate with police forces of neighbouring states — Chhattisgarh and Odisha — to tackle the Maoist menace in the region.

A coordination meeting on Left-wing extremism, chaired by Dr Jitender, was held at the ITC Guest House in Sarapaka, Bhadradri Kothagudem district. The meeting aimed to discuss the movements of members of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) and to develop a strategic plan to control their activities. Attendees included DGP (Intelligence) Shivadhar Reddy, Multi-Zone-I inspector general of police (IGP) Chandrashekhar Reddy, superintendent of police (Greyhounds) Raghavender Reddy, Bhadradri Kothagudem SP Rohith Raju, Mulugu SP Dr Shabarish, Bhupalpally SP Kiran Khare, and officials from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Officials from Maoist-affected districts briefed the DGP on the recent movements of CPI (Maoist) members and the measures being taken to counter them. They discussed intelligence reports and coordinated strategies to enhance security in vulnerable areas.

Dr Jitender emphasised that Maoist activities have become a major hurdle for development, particularly in agency areas — tribal regions requiring special administration. He instructed police officials along the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border to implement proactive measures to prevent any attempts by Maoists to carry out unlawful activities. He stressed the importance of sharing intelligence and working in close coordination with police forces from bordering states to effectively monitor and curb Maoist movements.

"The state and central governments are striving to deliver the benefits of welfare schemes, education, and healthcare facilities to people living in agency areas," Dr Jitender said. "However, Maoist leaders are resorting to violent incidents, creating obstacles to development in order to assert their presence."

Later in the day, the DGP visited the Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy Temple in Bhadrachalam, where he participated in a puja ceremony.
