A haunted house, an asexual woman, a charming man, a pet cat and supernatural surprises make author Claire Kann’s novel, Looking for Love in All the Haunted Places, an absolute page-turner. Lucky Hart, an asexual woman, takes on the challenge of living in a haunted Victorian-era house (Hennessee House) for a month (30 days) for a popular television show. Nothing scares Lucky. She is a self-claimed Extrasensory perception (ESP) researcher. Lucky is tickled by all things supernatural. She thinks this is her ultimate chance to prove her mettle as a parapsychologist by staying in the haunted house. All the earlier contestants of The Caretaker show had vamoosed screaming from the house within three days.

Lucky saunters inside the magnificent house with paintings, arched windows, and sketchy interiors. On the very first night of her stay in Hennessee House, Lucky comes across charming Maverick Phillips, a crew member of the show. Philips and Lucky are attracted to each other, despite the fact that she is asexual. Philips supports her, tries to protect her, and looks at things from her perspective. The chemistry between Lucky and Philips is instantly tangible. It is noticed by all – the TV show crew, the viewers, the inhabitants of the house, and the haunted Hennessee House too! Characters like Xander, Rebel, and Georgia make a fleeting appearance in the story, but enough to give the reader the eerie sense of the relationship between Lucky and the Hennessee House. The haunted house shows its invisible and invincible power through creaking doors, pungent smells, levitating objects, and scary sounds at odd hours. Each time the romance between Lucky and Philips floats through the pages, the house muscles its way in like an obstinate troublemaker. Lucky plans to bring things under control, but they end up backfiring. At one point, she wonders if the haunted house and its spirits are giving her a sinister warning. The author builds up the supernatural suspense and screaming moments cleverly, but there are times when the pace slows down and loses steam. But if you are looking for love in all the haunted places then this novel makes for a perfect rainy-day spooky read!
