Unlike few Telugu producers who don’t worry about hike in budgets and keep dishing out movies, leading Kannada producer Vijay Kirgandur seems to be quite cautious and pragmatic. “Salaar 2 is stuck since director Prashanth Neel has hiked the budget and informed producer that it would cost Rs 50 crore more than they planned and producer stalled it,” says a source, adding, “Some Telugu producers would have overlooked the hike but Kannada producer was pragmatic and quite calculative.”

Starring Prabhas, Shruti Hassan and directed by Prashanth Neel Salaar is an action-adventure film set against the fictional city of Khansar as it focuses on the clash of feudal lords to capture power. “Prabhas fights big battles to help his childhood friend Prithviraj to defeat his dreaded rivals,” the source adds. Now, that its sequel reportedly shows the concept of friend-turned-foes through Prabhas and Prithviraj, it would be like the clash of titans. “Salaar continuation has a lot of emotional core and also big bang action episodes since Prabhas takes on Prithviraj who rules a kingdom,” it concludes. While Salaar was made with ₹ 270 to ₹ 280 crores, the director came up with a new budget of ₹ 340 crores for Salaar 2. However, the producer is caught in a dilemma. “Maybe, Kalki’s big success could inspire Vijay to revive the project,” the source shares.
