Apple has started working on the manufacturing process of the iPhone 17 which is set to be released next year and it is reported that the base model of iPhone 17 will be manufactured in India.

Apple will use an Indian factory for the first time to do early manufacturing work for the iPhone 17 base model, reported The Information citing two people with direct knowledge of the situation.
This shows the progress Apple has made in diversifying the supply chain from China to India.
According to a Bloomberg report, Apple exported early $6 billion of India-made iPhones in six months through September 2024.
However, the much anticipated iPhone 17 Air or Slim and Pro models - iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Pro Max will be manufactured in China. Only the base model will be manufactured in India.
The early manufacturing process, internally known as New Production Introduction or NPI, involves optimizing iPhone design and materials for mass production. This process takes place between October and May.
Apple has expanded its manufacturing presence in India. Initially, the tech giant began manufacturing iPhones in India in 2017, starting with the iPhone SE as the only device manufactured in the country. Now, all the four models of the recently launched iPhone 16 are manufactured in India.
