HP develops anti-snooping laptops for privacy

The laptops can ensure privacy even when used in public spaces.

Under Chief Executive Officer Meg Whitman, HPE has sold off most of its software businesses, including its computing services unit, since the company spun off from Hewlett-Packard Co in 2015.

Computer firm, Hewlett-Packard have instilled a special technology named ‘Sure View’ in two new laptops that are set to debut soon.

This technology features an optional privacy mode, which darkens the picture by ‘up to 95%’ when observed from wide angles.

How it works?

You can enable the privacy mode by simply pressing the F2 key. HP claims its ‘Sure View’ technology is the world’s first ‘integrated’ privacy screen. This technology is a ‘necessity’ as ‘visual hacking’ is becoming an increasing phenomenon among laptops and smartphones.

However, there are many analysts who claim that companies have already manufactured similar technologies previously. For example, the attachable glue-on screen filters that pretty much provide the same effect.

"Angled screen view protectors are nothing new, they have been around 30 years,” said Chris Green, a technology analyst for communications agency, Lewis.
