Windows Phone might be reportedly making a comeback

The world has been talking ill of Windows Mobile for quite some time. The modern OS was supposed to compete for neck-to-neck with Android and iOS smartphones. However, the lack of support from app developers meant that it was soon discarded by the users. Also, the Windows 10 update pushed the dying platform to the edge of the cliff.

If you have been one of those who liked the OS, you can have a hope to see a revamped Windows Mobile again. According to reports from Thurrott, Microsoft is allegedly working on a reboot of the understated mobile platform. Microsoft is expected to work on the hardware and software to compete with the big boys of the mobile industry. Microsoft understands that the future of computers is going mobile.

There’s a separate branch of Windows Mobile working on this device, the aforementioned source continues, as Microsoft wants to give the operating system a refresh as well in order to make sure that the new phone is backed up by perfectly optimised and capable software.

The new phone could be expected sometime next year and could feature a revamped UI. It will be interesting to see if the Redmond Giant follows Android’s way of icons for apps on its ecosystem instead of the existing Tiles interface. With Microsoft indicating an interface overhaul for Windows 10 later in the year, the mobile platform could gain a more modern OS.

However, nothing is confirmed for now. But it gives hopes to hundreds of people who thought of the Windows Mobile as a potentially great platform.
