Now, roof exhaust fan can produce electricity
Assembled with a bunch of magnets, it would generate at least 30 W electricity from the exhaust fan at the cost of just Rs 600.
ALAPPUZHA: K. C. Baiju of Cherthala, a sub-engineer with Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), has developed a roof exhaust fan dynamo to produce electricity from its kinetic energy. Assembled with a bunch of magnets, it would generate at least 30 W electricity from the exhaust fan at the cost of just Rs 600. Mr Baiju, who has developed 35 low-cost energy saving devices, says he has been using it for recharging cell phone batteries and kindling LED bulbs.
“Being a promoter of renewable electricity generation initiatives of the KSEB, I thought it would be a better technique to save energy,” he says. “I went on setting up an exhaust fan on my tin rooftop. When I took a close look at its functioning, I saw the heated air slowly moving into aureole or halo space of the fan. By its force, the leaves started to spin. So I set up a bunch of magnets (40 nos) around the aureole that subsequently converted this kinetic energy into electricity.”
With the exhaust fan presence going up, especially in malls, hospitals, business centres, multiplexes and auditoriums, he believes his technology can be more adaptable and easy-to-spread. He would be happy to provide the technology at free of cost for those who are interested.
