Video Games for me, are best enjoyed with friends. Be it coop or competitive, everything is more fun when you’re playing with friends; that’s exactly what Hunt: Showdown is counting on!

The old school monster hunter game throws you and a friend into a dark world, overrun by monsters as you search for your bounty. Sounds Simple? Well it’s not. Not only do you have to make your way across a huge map as you hunt for your target, you’re also up against other duos on the same mission. This mix of PvE PvP gameplay is what sets it apart from most other games on the market.

What makes the experience even more exhilarating is the fact it has permadeath! Before every match you must select one of your existing hunters or recruit a new one with money you’ve earned. Should they die or not make it out of the map in time, they will be lost forever! So think twice before buying the most expensive person available.

When the game starts off, everyone loads in with their default inventory. It can be upgraded based on the level of your hunter and profile. Ammunition, Melee weapons and health packs can be picked up along the way but beyond that there’s not much more. The environment is where the fun comes in with traps, triggers that attract enemies or give away your position, poison swarms and more littered across the map. There’s a lot of learning involved in Hunt: Showdown. Knowing the exits, the traps, best areas to flank and so on. Patience is key, if you are to succeed. The two main ways to play are work the objective or track gunshots and follow other crews and get them to do all the heavy lifting. However, stalking players isn’t as easy as it sounds with birds, chains, shards of glass on the ground and of course enemies around every corner to give away your position.

While the gameplay requires you to be slow and calculated, it still feels a little clunky. But the game is still in Alpha stages, so it’s still got some time to make it friendlier for newcomers. The visuals however seem like they’ve been picked up from back in the early 2,000’s. Hopefully, it gets better with age. Since the game is in early alpha stages, the public can’t get in just yet but its worth keeping an eye on Hunt: Showdown for the next few months for beta sessions!
