A game that can shake you
Dead by Daylight will scare the living daylights out of you.
Indie hits tend to pop up out of nowhere and my new favourite is actually a horror game that sort of shot to fame thanks to livestreamers across the world, I’m talking about Dead by Daylight.
The horror coop survival game pits four victims against a deranged killer in creepy environments and you must work together or sacrifice your fellows to save yourself.
The four players must repair generators across the map while avoiding the killer who is also a player controlled character; so it’s a reimagination of the 4v1 formula that was made popular in Evolve, however, this time you have no offensive capabilities. The victims can only repair generators and use utilities like flashlights and maps for a slight tactical advantage but the only thing they can do with regards to the killer is run away.
The killer on the other hand is a bit complex; he is a hulking mass of death and moves a little slower than the victims. You can choose to kill players or sacrifice them. However, remaining victims can save their fellow survivor to buy more time for the escape mission.
What’s good about the game is the many minor mechanics placed to add to the immersion but those which also have some function. Crows react to the presence of survivors and killers. Your heartbeat goes up if the killer is nearby but you never get to know in what direction so straight up running is probably a good option. You can even customise your victims and killers with in game perks and you can choose from four killers too.
The game does have its issues with net code and online connectivity but when it works it’s a fun, especially when playing with friends.
