Timely diagnosis prevented the WannaCry copycat to make an issue as large as the ones it did in the May of this year.

The WannaCry ransomware has been claimed to be one of the most widely hit malware to hit computers on a global scale. Computer systems across the banking system as well police, hospitals and more were affected, primarily due to running older Windows operating systems. Despite Microsoft rolling out a security patch to fix the issue on its systems and stopping its spread, people are still in the dark regarding the current status of the ransomware.

If you have been visiting the Google PlayStore lately, you must have noticed a number of apps carrying the WannaCry tag in their name.  All these apps are basically there to prank people with the deadly ransomware’s name or provide tips and tricks. Some of them even go the extent of letting you download another sponsored antivirus app on Android.

As a modern technology user, you should know that the WannaCry ransomware only affects the Windows platform. The notorious ransomware threatened old systems running on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows 8. Modern smartphone platforms like Android, iOS or even Windows Phone don’t suffer from the ransomware’s threat.

If you use an Android or iOS smartphone, we recommend you to stay away from these apps as they are basically downloadable bloatware, drawing ads and hogging system resources as well as affecting battery life. Android and iOS are not affected by any kind of ransomware from the world of PCs.

There are certain mobile-specific malware that can infect your phone, which can be tackled by installing verified mobile security solutions.
