A couple of new additions in Twitter's makeover are the read receipts and the typing indicators alias three dots for DMs.

What do blue ticks remind you of? Most likely, you must be thinking of the tiny marks for read receipts on bottom right corner in a WhatsApp chat thread. Very soon when you type out and send a Direct Message (DM) on Twitter app, observe what happens. A couple of new additions in Twitter’s makeover are the read receipts and the typing indicators alias three dots for DMs. The announcement came on the microblogging site in a 38 second video. The ticks would turn visible in group chats and the typing indicators reflect the profile photos when a group member feeds in text to the message. The facility is all set to roll out on both iOS and Android platforms.

Going by the audience reaction beneath the video post, it’s a given that the update has not gone down well with many. Looks like people want the service to bring out more useful options like tools to prevent abusive content and edit option for tweets instead of incorporating the read receipts. However, Twitter is not thrusting upon its rules on the users. As in WhatsApp, users have the liberty to opt out of the feature by turning off the ‘send/receive read receipts’ under Settings.
