Panic button in mobile phones from Jan 1: Delhi Police to HC

Delhi Police will introduce 112 as a new emergency number.

Delhi Police has informed Delhi HC that all existing emergency number will be treated as secondary and calls will be re-routed to 100, until 112 is introduced.

Delhi Police has apprised Delhi High Court about Panic button to be introduced in every mobile phone starting January 1, 2017, to help citizens in distress.

Delhi Police is preparing to launch a single emergency number 112 to do away with all emergency numbers currently in operation, including 100 (Police) , 101 (Fire), 102 (Ambulance) and 108 (Disaster Management). The city Police informed a division bench of Justice BD Ahmed and Justice Ashutosh Kumar on October 26 all existing emergency will be treated as secondary and will be re-routed to 100, until 112 emergency number will be made available.

In response, the court has asked Delhi State Legal Service Authority Member Secretary Dharmesh Sharma to inspect all police stations across Delhi to check the steps adopted by police during investigating any crime case.
