Major carmakers, Microsoft tie up for connected driving
The firms also look forward to developing advanced in-car communication systems for offering better user interface and added convenience.
Major automakers Renault and Nissan have tied up with Microsoft to work on advanced connected car technologies.
According to reports, the two carmakers had been working together since 1999, under a strategic partnership called the Renault-Nissan Alliance to deliver developments in vehicle navigation and smart car technologies.
To further bolster their venture, the carmakers will now be using Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform to offer connected services.
Security and compliance are the major reasons why Microsoft has been chosen by the carmakers. Also, it offers scalability and support for multiple operating systems, programming languages and tools that give it the flexibility to build unique platforms for the two different firms.
Some of the new services that users can expect as a result of this new partnership will include enhanced diagnostics tools, personalisation options for vehicle customisation, and much more.
For instance, a user will have the provision to tailor navigation routes according to preference, and users will be able to juggle the same between various vehicles.
Through the partnership, the firms also look forward to developing advanced in-car communication systems for offering better user interface and added convenience.
Another significant progress under the coalition will help users monitor and control aspects of the vehicle remotely via a mobile device or computer. A remote tracking feature for enhanced security is also in the ambit.
While a lot of the aforementioned functions are available, the new alliance focuses on advancing the current infrastructure to make it sturdier and efficient.
