Samsung Galaxy S8 Mini leaks with a compact form factor
If you don't fancy the 5.5-inch dimensions of the standard S8, then Samsung is readying a 5.3-inch display with SD821.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 has been the centre of attention since the time it came out. It has a display that makes it different in the sea of similar looking smartphones. It has powerful internals, a smart voice assistant (Bixby) and a desirable build. There are, however, two issues with the Samsung flagship – one is the 5.5-inch display being the smallest option available and the other one is the price, which is north of Rs 50,000. Samsung seems to have understood the problem and is reportedly readying a solution for it – the Galaxy S8 Mini.
Samsung fans may be arguing that the Mini models in its flagship line-up aren’t new, with the S3, S4 and S5 sporting ‘Mini’ editions of the flagships. Barring the S6 and S7, Samsung is set to bring the ‘Mini’ moniker back with the S8 later this year according to reports from Taiwanese website iThome. The S8 Mini will bring the S8 to more people with slightly watered down specifications.
The watered down specification include a 5.3-inch AMOLED display, a quad-core Snapdragon 821 chipset, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. It will sport a 12MP camera sensor with f/1.7, 26mm lens along with PDAF. It is also expected to feature the iris scanner from the Galaxy S8.
The report mentions that the smaller Galaxy S8 could be initially launched in Korea followed by other selected markets. If this handset becomes a reality, then it will pose a challenge to the still-selling Galaxy S7 Edge from 2016 and the Galaxy S6 Edge from 2015.
