‘Phantom’ iPhone SE 2 leaks and rumours
The iPhone SE 2 is expected to launch next year and here we break down everything you need to know ahead of its arrival.
The iPhone SE was one of Apple’s most successful smartphones to date. This is mainly due to the company’s ingenious idea of adding cutting-edge specifications in a chassis that was not just comfortable to handle but also one of the most cherished designs that they have to offer. The iPhone SE was the brand’s callback to the iPhone 5/5S, a smartphone that was around for years before Apple eventually did away with the chamfered edges and embraced a more rounded design from the iPhone 6 onwards.
Today, we look at the spiritual successor of the iPhone SE that’s currently dubbed as iPhone SE 2 or iPhone 9 and break down all the leaks and rumours that are available for it so far.
The iPhone SE 2 is expected to do away with the design that was found in the original iPhone SE and employ a design that’s similar to the iPhone 8 — this means that the handset will sport curved sides and will have an unchanged design. So, don’t expect any new design to feature here as it will also boast a 4.7-inch display that’s currently found on the iPhone 8. Apart from this, rumours are indicating that the iPhone SE 2 will come in three or four colours — Space Grey, Silver, Gold and (Product) RED. However, this information isn’t confirmed and Apple could switch this up a bit.
Based on the current market scenario, the Apple iPhone SE 2 is expected to launch by 2020 at the earliest and the handset may be revealed by March 23 with it going up for preorder two days later on March 25, 2020. These details strongly indicate that the handset will get a release date of April 3, 2020, with it being available all over the globe.
A related report by SlashGear claims, “The Apple Phone SE, first revealed on March 21, 2016. This new device will not be the same as that original iPhone SE. According to analysis from Ming-chi Kuo, this new iPhone SE 2 will not look like the iPhone SE but instead will have a look like the iPhone 8 and a set of parts similar to that same device. It’ll have 3GB RAM, minimum internal storage of 64GB, and a max of 128GB.”
It has been rumoured that the upcoming iPhone SE 2 will come with a starting price of USD 399 (about Rs 28,500) and it will effectively replace the iPhone SE as the brand’s cheapest offering.
While most of the recent rumours suggest a 4.7-inch display, there are also scattered leaks that suggest that Apple is testing new sets of displays in several different sizes. However, until Apple officially launches the iPhone SE 2 or the iPhone 9, take all this with a healthy dose of salt. Also, more leaks and rumours should surface closer to the launch date as the handset is currently a phantom.
