Google Pixel 4 crushes iPhone 11 with one killer feature
Google’s upcoming handset will come with a feature that only a handful of flagship smartphones have.
In an unprecedented move for a tech company, Google has revealed its upcoming Pixel 4 devices even before it has been officially unveiled. Since then, they have taken to social media and teased some of its features. However, the latest leak regarding the Pixel 4 doesn’t come from Google; but has been uncovered by XDA-Developers. With this feature in tow, the Google Pixel 4 beats the likes of the iPhone 11, Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and a wide range of flagship smartphones.
As per the report, Google has left a code that’s buried within Android 10 which confirms that the upcoming flagship Pixel 4 will feature a 90Hz display. For those not in the know, 90Hz refresh rate is a breakthrough technology and it has a massive advantage over the 60Hz Galaxy Note 10.
A related report by Forbes states, “What XDA-Developers found was a commit from Google inside Android 10 that it will add an enable/disable option to toggle a 90Hz mode on the ‘P19’ - which we already know this is a reference to the ‘Pixel 2019’. After all, the only Pixels released in 2019 to date are the Pixel 3a and 3a XL and - as great as they are - they are budget-friendly devices which don’t have 90Hz panels. “
With this new feature, Pixel 4 will position itself as a contender as one of the best handsets available this year. Smaller smartphone manufacturers such as OnePlus who adopted 90Hz displays have been widely praised for offering increased smoothness and reduced eye strain. Additionally, this could be advantageous for Google as its primary rivals Apple and Samsung as they will be sticking to 60Hz screens for this year.
The only downside to a 90Hz display is a strain on battery life and this raises a few eyebrows as the Pixel 4 is tipped to have a smaller battery than the Pixel 3 — a phone that has questionable battery life.
Forbes adds, “Of course, such self-inflicted damage would be typical of Google’s two-steps-forward-one-step-back smartphone history. But right now, let’s concentrate on certainties because two years on from the Pixel 2 display debacle, the Pixel 4 looks set to make its display the biggest talking point but for all the right reasons.”
