Samsung will disclose its full results including earnings and divisional breakdowns later this month.

Samsung had this week showed off a patent for a design concept for a foldable smartphone that made the rounds of the internet. Looking at the renderings in the patent, as well as a report that Samsung will unveil two bendable phone in 2017, has brought the idea of having a bendable phones to reality.

But it seems as if even Samsung successfully makes the foldable phones, a new report has stated that Samsung might be cautious in releasing them. Samsung has to first gauge the market, which is largely uncertain, “sources” told The Korean Herald.

“Samsung is already capable of mass producing foldable phone,” the Herald reported. “Although premium models are usually made in small quantities — by late next year — but the company is not sure whether there is a market demand for the costly, foldable devices.”

The Herald further stated, “If the market condition is confirmed, foldable tablets — instead of smartphones — are likely to be unveiled with the panels facing outward,” he added.”

Samsung has previously sold smartphones with flexible displays (Galaxy Round) which saw the company making a small amount of phones and selling them in their stronghold of South Korea to see how customers responded.

There is a reason as to why Samsung is taking these steps. The company recently went through the whole Note 7 explosion incidents causing one of the biggest recalls in the history of smartphone recalls. Samsung will be focusing its energies on getting back into buyers’ good graces, and making sure future products don’t suffer.

The tech giant has continued to show the prototype of its foldable devices in global events and conferences over the past years, the company however is delving into new software testing by adopting new software like as the artificial intelligence for Galaxy S8.
