Redmi 5 launched for Rs 7,999 with 18:9 display and Snapdragon 450 in India
The smartphone will be seen competing with Honor's recently released 9 Lite, Moto G5s and Samsung J7 Nxt.
Xiaomi has launched the successor to its budget Redmi 4 — Redmi 5. The Chinese company has been teasing the phone as 'Compact Powerhouse' with features such as large battery and display, speedy processor, and good selfie camera.
The Redmi 5 has been priced at Rs 7,999 for the 2GB/16GB variant, Rs 8,999 for the 3GB/32GB variant and the Rs 10,999 for the 4GB/64GB variant. The smartphone will be seen competing with Honor’s recently released 9 Lite, Moto G5s and Samsung J7 Nxt. The Redmi 5 will be available for purchase from March 20 on Amazon, Mi home and Mi.com.
As for the specification, the Redmi 5 sports a 5.7-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 720x1440 pixels, with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset based on the 14nm FinFet manufacturing process. Furthermore, the company claims that the Redmi 5 scored 69,628 on the AnTuTu benchmark, surpassing Samsung J7 Nxt and Moto G5s. The Redmi 5 comes with MIUI 9 which has a variety of India-specific applications.
On the photography front, the Redmi 5 features a 12MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash. Up front, the handset comes with a 5MP camera lens with Beautify 3.0 capabilities along with LED flash. The device is backed by a 3300mAh which the company claims the phone delivers 10 hours of video playback. It weighs about 157 grams.
The Redmi 5 will be available in four new colours — Black, Gold, Rose Gold and Lake Blue.
