Lenovo to unveil a second Tango smartphone in 2017
ASUS has also joined the league and confirmed the launch of a Tango smartphone next year.
Year 2016 turned out to be a good year for Lenovo’s smartphone business as the company successfully launched the world’s first commercial Tango smartphone, the Phab 2 Pro. After a few delays, the device is finally available for purchase in the European and US markets.
According to AndroidAuthority Lenovo Pab 2 Pro was purchased by roughly 6,000 developers through its online store and at the time of showcase, meaning the high amount of developers who bought the device will lead to a more firm ecosystem with plenty of apps and services.
There are new reports surfacing that claim Lenovo won’t be the only company that will produce Tango smartphones in 2017. ASUS has also joined the league and confirmed the launch of a Tango smartphone next year. Other smartphone giants are expected to follow the path soon.
Jeff Merideth, General Manager of Android and Chrome, points out that Lenovo can have the upper hand as the pioneer of Project Tango. The company’s next smartphone is likely to offer better experience than other Tango smartphone available in the market. However, Lenovo is yet to confirm the release of its second Tango smartphone, but there seems to be no reason that the company won’t continue to produce Tango smartphones.
As for the specifications, the device comes with a 6.4-inch quad HD display with 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
The smartphone is equipped with four cameras consisting of a 16-megapixel RGB camera, depth camera, and fisheye camera for ultra-wide angle panoramics. The cameras work in conjunction with Tango software to enable smartphone AR experience. It also packs in an 8MP front facing camera. The smartphone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and is fuelled by a 4050mAh battery.
