Apple's 6.1-inch iPhone leak: 18:9 LCD display with FaceID and more
The upcoming iPhone is expected to come with Japan Display's \"Full Active\" LCD technology.
It seems that Apple might add some new ingredients to its upcoming iPhones. Rumours about Apple's upcoming handsets are present in dime-a-dozen throughout the year and one of the latest ones suggests that while two of the three iPhones might come with an iPhone X-like OLED display, the third model is said to come with a more advanced LCD display than previous iPhones.
A report by Taiwan's Commercial Times claims that the Cupertino based tech giant might adopt Japan Display's "Full Active" LCD technology for one of the upcoming cheaper iPhones. Previous reported suggested that the LCD iPhone will come with a 6.1-inch screen; however, the new report claims that the screen size could be around 6-inches. Moreover, unlike iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus' traditional LCDs, Full Active LCDs only require ultra-slim 0.5mm bezels on all sides — even smaller than those on the iPhone X.

According to Japan Display, its Full Active LCDs are 6-inch panels with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels along with an 18:9 aspect ratio, which is on par with narrow-bezel Android smartphones but smaller than the iPhone's X's 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The 6.1-inch iPhone is expected to have a taller display, likely with a cutout for the TrueDepth camera system, although not quite as tall as the iPhone X.
A few days back KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested that the upcoming LCD iPhone could be the first iPhone since 2015 to not feature their signature 3D Touch. He also predicted that the 6.1-inch iPhone's display will have a pixel density of 320-330 ppi, on par with the present generation iPhone 8.
Kuo says that Apple might sell the new 6.1-inch iPhone at a cheaper price point and it might swap stainless steel for aluminium in its frame. Also, the phone could come with a single-lens camera instead of the dual-lens rear camera and is said to have some iPhone X features including Face ID.
In a research note obtained by MacRumors, Kuo predicted that the 6.1-inch iPhone will apparently be a mid-range handset and will come with a price tag of $700 or $800 in the US. Some of them have even been predicting that this 6.1-inch LCD iPhone could be the successor to the iPhone SE with a bumped up price tag.
