Hyderabad: Meta-owned messaging platform, WhatsApp may soon follow its sister company 'Instagram' and introduce Augmented reality effects and filters in video calls.

According to WABetainfo, the feature is currently under testing and will soon be available for Android users. In a beta version of the app that is available in Google play store, there is a functionality of using the AR filters in video calls, says the report.
A similar feature was already available on Snapchat and Apple's FaceTime, apart from Meta's Instagram. The AR effects in video calls will improve the overall visual experience of the user, while adding elements of fun to the conversations.
WhatsApp has recently added the screen-share option on video calls along with audio. A reported feature to transcribe voice messages and other improvements in video calling are also on cards.
