Social media platform X on Friday announced the rollout of profile labels for parody or satire accounts. With the Parody Label, users can differentiate parody profiles from other accounts.

“We’re rolling out profile labels for parody accounts to clearly distinguish these types of accounts and their content on our platform,” X said in a post.

Elon Musk-owned social media platform said that these labels were designed to increase transparency and ensure that users are not deceived into thinking “such accounts belong to the entity being parodied.”

Parody labels will appear on both posts and accounts so that users get to know the source of the content that they are seeing. The social media platform further said that they will share details soon on when these labels will become mandatory for parody accounts.

Users can also report an account if they think it’s a parody profile. “If you believe an account is inauthentic or impersonating an entity, you can report the account in-app or via our Help Center,” X wrote.

Last year, TechCrunch reported that X is working on parody labels for parody accounts.

Currently, users have to apply for the label themselves. They have to go to Settings and Privacy > Your account > Account information, and then select Parody, commentary, and fan account.
