Hyderabad: A newly purchased electric bike was gutted completely while charging it at the house of a farmer at Balapally village in Jagtial on Thursday afternoon.

The farmer kept his bike that was purchased a month ago for charging and left to attend his work in the village. A few minutes later, he received a call from his brother, who is residing adjacent to his house, informing that a fire broke out in his house.

Reddy rushed to his house and found that the flames engulfed the bike. Even as he tried to extinguish flames, the bike exploded suddenly. He then alerted the fire service department officials who pressed into service a fire tender to douse the flames.

Apart from the bike, 25 bags of maize, tractor tyres and other equipment, besides Rs.1.90 lakh cash that was kept in the bike’s boot was damaged. Reddy kept the cash in the boot after selling the paddy to the miller in the district.

In a separate incident, an electric bike caught fire while charging in the parking area of an apartment here. Bijay Behra bought the vehicle last year. When he called the company to inform them about the incident, the staff was not responding leaving him in a confused state. The reasons behind the two incidents were yet to be known.
