Give Your Skin a Boost
Changing times have led to changing skin care aesthetics and the need for something that can help make a long-term difference is the need of the hour which is where skin boosters come to the rescue.
The Concept
New-age anti-aging skin boosters are injectables that hydrate and rejuvenate the skin. True to their name, the revolutionary skin boosters hydrate and revive the skin from the inside giving it the radiant glow that no cream or serum can match. Dr Rinky Kapoor, consultant dermato-logist, cosmetic dermatologist & dermato-surgeon, The Esthetic Clinics says, “skinboosters help in visibly radiant and improved complexion, reduced lines and wrinkles on theskin, healthier skin tone and saturated hydration under the skin lending it the extra glow.
They also help firm skin texture and tone, reduce dry patches, improve skin elasticity as well as improve skin appearance overall.” Skin boosters are injectable treatments containing hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the skin. They work by hydrating and revitalising the skin, improving elasticity and radiance. These fountains of youth improve the tone, hydration, and firmness of the skin without changing the structure of the skin. they are thinner and lighter and hence can be safely injected just under the dermis.
Coverage Cues
Skin boosters can be used anywhere on the body, but are primarily used on the neck, cheek, hands, and face areas. Skin boosters offer gradual plumping and contouring. They are very popular among the young as a glass skin shot as the microdroplets of skin boosters improve light reflection on the skin. They are perfect for every skin type and can be injected in all skin ranges and any gender. Dr. Debeshi Bhattacharjee, clinical cosmetologist, Medical Head and founder, Lueur Aesthetics says, “new generation skin boosters go beyond traditional hydration. They often include advanced formulations with vitamins, antioxidants, and peptides. These components hydrate and stimulate collagen production, providing a more comprehensive rejuvenation for the skin. They help in reducing fine lines, improve texture, and promote overall skin health.”
Impact Matters
Once you have taken skin boosters, you can typically see results in about 2-3 weeks post injection and this lasts for about 6-12 months depending on the type of skin boosters that are being used. The results are not dramatic but subtle. Dr. Monica Chahar, dermatologist, Skin Décor says, “unlike dermal fillers, which shape and contour facial features, skin boosters focus on rejuvenation and overall skin health. They are often referred to as ‘injectable moisturizers’ because they deeply hydrate and repair the skin from within. For optimal results, consider two sessions per year to maintain hydration and skin quality.”
Get Ready
Before the treatment stop taking medications like vitamin E, green tea, fish oil, etc. that increase the chance of bruising. Post-treatment, you can apply ice on the skin to soothe. Avoid swimming, sauna, and steam treatments for two days post-injection. Avoid any other face procedure for some time. If you are thinking of getting laser or radiofrequency treatments, then defer them for a few months as they can melt the skin booster treatment.
Regular maintenance and a good skincare routine complement skin booster treatments. Dr. Rajasvi V Pujar, consultant dermatologist, Kaya Clinic says, “it is advisable to avoid heavy makeup immediately after the procedure, especially if there is any redness or swelling. Your healthcare provider will guide you on when it’s safe to resume your regular makeup routine.
Stay well-hydrated before and after the treatment. Practice diligent sun protection before and after the procedure. Sunscreen is crucial to protect your skin from UV rays, especially as increased sensitivity to sunlight is common after cosmetic procedures.”
Take Care
Skin boosters are injected directly into the skin and generally do not have any side effects apart from small mosquito bite-like redness for a few hours after treatment. In some cases, the side effects may be site redness, swelling, and pinpoint bruising which usually go away in a day. People who are allergic to hyaluronic-based products or any of the skin booster ingredients should not go for the treatment. “It is a minimally invasive procedure and needs 3-4 days to address issues like redness and swelling. It usually takes about two weeks for the results. Some skin boosters may require multiple sessions about one month apart,” says cosmetic surgeon, founder, The Face Centre.
(Note: Do check with your doctor before taking the treatment)
