Hyderabad: Nosgoth, a team-based MMO action shooter is one of the more unique shooters out there. Though it’s still in beta, what it offers visually is stunning. Not just that, the fact that the sound and visuals of this free to play game can rival any AAA title is praiseworthy.
There is only one game mode as of now and that is Team Deathmatch, where two teams of four take turns playing as humans and vampires and the team with the highest score wins.
There are two warring factions in game, the Humans and the Vampires. Each team is composed of four different character classes each with their unique equipment and abilities. To the game’s credit, all the classes feel unique and play quite differently from one another.
It makes your choice seem more relevant and also requires that your team plans a match by focussing on how each class synergises with the others so that the team can come out on top. This is also where the MMO element really shines through.
As you play and level up you can spend the coins you earn to unlock new equipment and abilities that cater to your playstyle, and you get to unlock a new character on each team every five levels.
The game ran surprisingly well for a game in beta, with minimal frame rate stutters and little to no glitches. Moreover, some of the complaints from the closed beta tests were addressed and a tutorial mode has been introduced. Issues like where to seek health and mana, the biggest complaint from the closed beta was also explained.
All in all, for a free to play game Nosgoth looks and plays amazingly well, the only issue here is that there was no one wow factor that compelled me to play the game. Team play is the crux of the game, and if you don’t have your friends playing then it gets really frustrating. Thus, it is imperative that you party up before starting a game with people whose play styles you understand.
