Film: Oka Laila Kosam
Cast: Naga Chaitanya, Pooja Hegde, Suman, Ali, Sayaji Shinde and Sudha
Director: Vijaykumar Konda
Rating: 3

Actor Naga Chaitanya has teamed up with director Vijaykumar Konda for ‘Oka Laila Kosam’.  This is Konda’s second directorial venture after riding high on the success of his debut film ‘Gunde Jaari Gallanthayinde’. The stakes are high, given that his debut soared the box office. Actress Pooja Hegde makes her debut with ‘Oka Laila Kosam’, while Anoop Rubens, who has earlier composed music for Chaitanya’s earlier film ‘Manam’ is the music director OLK as well.

The opening sequence starts with the convocation ceremony at the Indian School of Business, where Karthik (Naga Chaitanya), the protagonist receives a gold medal at the award function. Karthik is destined to take over his father’s business, but before he takes up his responsibilities, he wants to travel around the world for a year.  As he embarks on his journey, he meets Nandana (Pooja Hegde) and hopelessly falls in love with her. He tries to win her over, but as luck would have it Nandana hates Karthik. Nandana loves her businessman father (Sayaji Shinde), and obeys him to the last word. Time passes and Karthik’s parents want him to settle down and start his own family. Life comes to a full circle as his parents find him a bride and the girl turns out to be Nandana (surprise, surprise). Karthik is ecstatic as he gets the girl of his dreams but Nandana is unhappy with the relationship.

Director Vijaykumar Konda has offered us a routine love story with a straight narration and there are no flashbacks, twists and turns. The screenplay and the dialogues fit into the scheme of things smoothly. The highlight of the film is the treatment of a simple story in a entertaining and engaging manner. Good background score is a pre-requisite for any good film and  Anoop Rubens’ music compliments the tone of the movie .For Chaitanya, it’s a complete film as an actor. He had given a matured performance in his earlier film Manam and in this film he has proved that he is good in all departments. He has shown good dancing skills in the film and has handled the comic and emotional scenes very well.

The film is also a perfect launching pad for Pooja Hegde and she has performed well. She is beautiful, cute and very impressive and has a bright future ahead. Ali provided a few laughs and in the second half, Posani Krishna Murali entertains with his comic timing. In the other characters, Shayaji Shinde, Suman, Rohini and Sudha are good as elegant Telugu parents. The action
scenes deserve special mention as they have been well composed. There are, however, a few drawbacks. The story is predictable and drags a bit in the second half. Some of the scenes are inspired by a few older movies, especially the “macha” scene reminds one of Nagarjuna’s Ninne Pelladatha.

The director has concentrated more on the lead actor and has left the female lead in confusion and there is no clarity about her character. But overall it’s a feel good film and you can watch it once for Chaitanya and Pooja Hegde.
