I’ll be happy if it’s true: Varun Dhawan

Varun Dhawan is working hard on his two high-profile projects at present. While ABCD 2 sees him show off his dancing skills, in Badlapur, it is his emotive power that will be on display.

Badlapur, says Varun, “is for all those adults who felt I was cheesy in my first three films”. Of the dramatically different character he is portraying, the actor says, “It’s scary even to me, (how) my character Raghu comes so easily to me.

I’ve heard that children are scared of me now! But that’s okay as there is ABCD 2 and a yet-to-be-announced film, where I will surely please the kids.”

Varun shares screen space with four ladies in Badlapur Yami Gautam, Huma Qureshi, Radhika Apte and Divya Dutta. His lovemaking scenes with the actresses have been subject to much scrutiny.

Varun himself is quite comfortable with the topic. “For the lovemaking scene with Yami, even our director (Sriram Raghavan) was surprised how comfortable we were!” Varun says.

“Everyone has been most surprised by the kiss with Divya Dutta. But why not? She’s a beautiful woman.”

While he’s comfortable enough discussing his onscreen romances, Varun has been fairly reticent about his real life one, though he is often spotted about town with Natasha Dalal.

While we’re still waiting for an official confirmation from him on that score, we couldn’t resist asking him what he knew about the romances reportedly brewing between his peers Arjun Kapoor-Sonakshi Sinha and Alia Bhatt-Sidharth Malhotra.

“I would be happy if it’s true!” Varun says, of the rumours that Sonakshi and Arjun are dating. “They’ve known each other since they were little.

Their balconies were quite close and they would look at each other from there. Then one day, they lost weight and entered the movie industry!” he adds with a laugh.

On the subject of Alia and Sidharth, Varun chooses to play safer, as he says, “I am very happy for anyone who is in love. If I say anything more, mujhe gaaliyan padegi (I’ll be abused).

I can safely say I was in Las Vegas (when these reports emerged), so I don’t know what happened here.”
