Kochi: The Mollywood scenario is changing and this is very apparent in the storylines, casting and even the production team. Lately, many of the established stars have been taking an active interest in handling the purse strings for a film, right from Jayasurya, Fahadh Faasil, Prithviraj, Nivin Pauly to the latest on the list, Asif Ali. These actors often make it a point to team up with friends or acquaintances they are comfortable with in producing a film.
Asif Ali along with Sajin and Prajeesh will be producing the film Kohinoor, which will be directed by Vinay Govind. Elaborating on the reasons, Asif says, “It has been eight years since I came into the industry with a lot of dreams and now I want to take my association with films to the next level through my production house, Adam’s World of Entertainment, named after my son. This happened because of my association with Vinay.”
Incidentally, Vinay was the director of Asif’s hit film Kili Poyi which was Mollywood’s first stoner genre film. Asif adds, “I wanted to do another good film with friends and we went through a lot of scripts, at last zeroing in on the script of Kohinoor. This film is set in the 80s, but sadly we did not get a good production back up which is when I decided to start my own production company.” Asif does not forget to add that the production house would not only be doing films that cast him but will also be handling films of debutant directors and actors. Asif mentions, “I got into films through an audition and want to give chances to other aspiring directors and actors and to give wings to their dreams.”
Speaking more about the film, Vinay adds, “It is a retro heist-thriller film and stars Asif, Indrajith, Aju Varghese, Sunny Wayne and Chemban Vinod in prominent roles.” Asif also reveals, “There is yet another film which has been in the planning and scripting stage for the past one year that will also see realisation. That film titled IDI or Inspector Dawood Ibrahim is directed by Sajid Yahiya and will be an action film for the masses. This title role and genre is something I have always wanted to play for a long time.” Before finishing off, he apologises, “I know I have very bad phone manners; it is a genetic disorder which I hope to rectify, as I have become more responsible, professional and careful now.”
