Dancing is not my forte: Sanaya Irani
The actress says the thought of dancing on television gives her jitters still
Mumbai: After turning down the offer to feature on Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa year after year, Sanaya Irani finally agreed to be on the show this season. A self-confessed non-dancer, the actress says the thought of dancing on television gives her jitters still. “It is nerve-racking and challenging at the same time. When you see me dancing on the show, you will know that dancing is not for me. I am very nervous during dancing since it’s not my forte. But I am hoping that I’ll get confident with every passing week.”
So nervous is the actress that she has asked her boyfriend and actor Mohit Sehgal, also a contestant on Jhalak, to stay away from her performances at least at the start. “Yes, I have asked him to stay away for at least two or three weeks, till I get used to the stage. I will call him after that. That way both of us can enjoy the performance. He knows that I’ve wanted to do this for a while, but couldn’t due to prior commitments. So he said, go ahead baby, get done with it.”
Incidentally, Sanaya was offered rival dance show Nach Baliye as well, but she chose Jhalak instead. “I just think that the level of dancing really improves when you dance with a professional choreographer instead of your partner. I think Jhalak is a better platform for me as a dancer.”
Sanaya happens to love the judges on the show as well. “Honestly Karan is my most favourite judge. I have watched him in previous seasons too and he is so vocal. I like his energy and I like how sporting he is. Shahid is young, full of life and he’s such a good dancer! He is the perfect person to judge somebody. I think it’s a great choice that they got Shahid on board for this season,” she said.
