'BB' girl Harshaali's favourite stars are 'Salman uncle' and 'Katrina Aunty'
In a candid chat with DC, 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' girl and her mother shared their story
Mumbai: Harshali Malhotra may have played the role of a mute girl in the film but in real life the young actress likes to talk, play and have fun on and off sets.
Accompanied by her mother Kajal Malhotra, who's an interior designer, the star kid was all smiles for the interview. After giving almost three rounds of group interviews, Harshali hid under a table when she was asked to do the same routine for the third time.
We caught hold of her mother, who was trying to make her restless and tired daughter sit for the chat. It was a roller coaster ride for the family who changed their entire schedule for their daughter to live her dream. After all not everyone gets a chance to debut on the silver screen at the age of seven that too with superstar Salman Khan. Recalling the time Harshali first met Salman, Kajal said, "First day when she met Salman she was very shy then the team left both of them alone for some time to bond after that everything was fine."
“She couldn’t bond so much with Kareena because Harshali loves Salman like anything. She always wanted to shoot with Salman and thankfully she got a chance to do that," she added.
Kick starting her career at the tender age of two, Harshali has always been a star, she was first discovered in an ad campaign when her parents took her to a nearby shopping mall. Since then there’s no looking back for the little star. Her mother Kajal occasionally took her for television show auditions after which she realized Harshaali’s keen interest towards being in front of the camera. “She used to say make me do anything except for giving auditions. She hates giving auditions. I don’t know why,” she shared.
Even though the seven-year-old never liked giving auditions, she appeared for 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan's' audition and was selected among five thousand other girls competing for the same role. As destiny would have it, she bagged the role of Shahida and shot her first scene in Delhi. When Harshali was called to play the role of Shahida her mother coudln't contain her excitement. "Before finalising her Mukesh and Kabir took three girls they shortlisted to meet Salman Khan. That was the first time Harshali came face to face with the star and then she said I want to be a superstar like you. I was so shocked to hear that when she came back and told me. It was very unexpected."
But Kajal is in no hurry of keeping Harshali on the run until she gets a good project in hand. "By the time she reaches class 6th or 7th, I will keep her acting career on hold till she passes 12th so that even if she wants pursue her dream she should be fully prepared for her films," she shared.
Meanwhile Harshali was hiding under a table not wanting to go through the tedious interviews that were lined up for her. After a little pursuation the little girl started talking only on one condition that the interviewers would play with her after she answers all the questions. When asked if she calls Salman her uncle, the little girl quipped, "Salman uncle ko chorke Salman mama bulati hu (instead of calling him Salman uncle I call him Salman mama)". She also revealed that she calls Kareena her aunt.
Harshali did not get the opportunity to bond well with Kareena. However she shared that her favourite actress from the industry is 'the Begum' and Salman's ex flame Katrina Kaif. She now wants to work in a film with Katrina. Speaking on behalf of her daughter Kajal revealed that Harshali has already met Katrina and has clicked a selfie with her too.
Harshali also revealed that she used to play table tennis with Salman when the two were not busy shooting for the film. Harshali's work is much appreciated in the film so much so that she has been declared the hero of 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan', now running in theatres.
