While a certain section of the Twitterati took offence at Salman Khan’s tweets in support of ’93 Mumbai serial blasts convict Yakub Memon, his Bollywood colleagues rose to his defence. Among those who supported Salman’s right to tweet his opinion was Riteish Deshmukh.
“Every person can have opinion and should have an opinion and their opinion should be respected,” Ritieish said, when asked for his reaction to Salman’s tweet, and the backlash against the superstar.
“What Salman tweeted was what he felt. When he took (down) his tweets, it was because he realised this is the kind of world we are living in right now, where everyone reacts to what is said on social media. The reaction to his tweet only aggravated the issue. The problem with social media is that many a times, people react prematurely and then a debate starts on whether or not that was correct. Various parties have various interests, and they come on board to divert attention. We (celebrities) become soft targets and that’s why we shy away from giving out our opinions on public forums.”
